Japanese Zombie Mayhem!

Helldriver's zombie queen (Eihi Shlina)

Yoshihiro Nishimura’s Helldriver  is no ordinary zombie film.  Set in a futuristic Japan where a wall divides the living from the undead, it moves at breakneck speed through a series of increasingly hallucinogenic fight scenes.  When it comes to the imaginative use of zombie body parts, Helldriver really is in a class of its own.  Picture an epic battle taking place on top of a rocket-propelled spaceship composed entirely of zombies and you’re some way towards understanding the film’s magnificent craziness.

Helldriver is screening at 10 p.m. this Saturday 10 September at the 2011 Sydney Underground Film Festival, which I’m looking forward to covering for RealTime+onscreen.  Stay tuned…
